MHS students are starving!

Second lunch is cruel and unusual punishment

I have been in school for four hours. It's 12:30 but I still have 38 minutes to watch tick by all too slowly. My poor stomach lets out a tiny cry for help. I can hardly stand it anymore! I know that I'm not the only one suffering. Only one thing could be the cause of all this agony: the dreaded second lunch.

Instead of the 11:32 lunch we've come to love, some of us must wait until 1:08 for food.

After a whole summer of eating whenever we're hungry, coming back to school and having to eat lunch so late can be difficult. The fact that most classes here do not allow food makes it nearly impossible to have a little something to eat when we need it.

Many are also concerned by the fact that separate lunches can separate friends. In my opinion, the lunchrooms are way too crowded as it is. A few times people were still waiting in line for lunch when the bell rang! Since we no longer have Adams campus as another option, all of us crammed into the commons obviously would not work. But I do understand that it still isn't fun not being able to eat lunch with all your friends.

Some have also found that we cannot get down some halls during different lunches. This makes it hard for those who would like to get to their locker.

Another problem brought up by second lunch is that the athletes sometimes have to leave for away games before 1:08. If this happens, yes, they are allowed to bring a sack lunch, but this is still an issue because they could still forget their lunch, then what are they to do?

I really don't understand why we have the hour break between lunches. Wouldn't it make more sense to allow second lunch students eat at 12:08, only around half an hour after last year's time, rather than 1:08, about an hour and a half after last year's time? It seems that if that were so, it would cause students a lot less grief.

I think this year brought too much change for most students. With the new electronics policy, making it necessary to go around Adams campus to get to the Muchas area and second lunch, it's a lot to take in all at once. I think this late lunch could have been avoided.

In short, second lunch is causing loads of problems. From lack of focus to not seeing friends to having to lug our stuff around, in some way I'm sure everyone has been affected by second lunch. We can only hope next year will bring something a little brighter.
