Potter’s House, a haunting one

Over the top gore offends citizens

I had the unfortunate opportunity to go to the Third Street "haunted house," with "graphic images," this Halloween. Little did I know it was run by the Potter's House.

I never had the chance to go in as there was a huge crowd of angry parents and college-age protesters who had gone through the house of horrors and come out the other side truly horrified.

In the house, some actors acted out a couple of controversial scenes. One was a girl who appeared to be in a hospital, her lower half of her body was bloody as she had just had an abortion and her assumed boyfriend was standing next to her as she laid in the bed and cried.

She thought about the possibility of having a baby, but it was too late. The fetus was discarded to the side, almost like a piece of trash.

Another scene was of a guy contemplating suicide, with an "angel" and a "demon" standing on either side of him trying to persuade him either to do it or not. The man eventually puts a gun in his mouth, there is a flash of light, and the man is dragged of the stage by the demon, suggesting that now he will go to hell.

Maybe the Potter's House is confused about what a haunted house really is. So here you go Potter's House, my definition: a haunted house is when some volunteers put on make-up, masks and costumes on. They hide behind things and jump out at you or they come running out at you from behind a door. They make weird noises, they make the people who go through the haunted house scream and then giggle at their own silliness and they do not make them come out extremely disgusted with what they have just seen. Thank you Potter's House, for perverting the fun of a haunted house.

Not only was this false advertising to the regular teenager looking for a night of fun, (no one under 13 was admitted) it is a form of brain washing. One girl was quoted in the News Register that she was told to "shut up" when she expressed her opinion inside the haunted house. How Christian-like.

I wonder if the Potter's House people asked themselves: what would Jesus do? Because I'm pretty sure this is something the son of God would not do.

It's absolutely ridiculous to me to take something like abortion or suicide and blow it out of proportion like they did.

How dare they do this? I mean, the school district always goes through the trouble of getting parent permission before allowing kids to watch movies that are semi-controversial. Why wasn't the same accomplished here?

This "haunted house" was scary, by far probably the scariest in the state of Oregon. You're probably not thinking of "scary" the same way I'm defining it though.

To me, it's scary that something like the Potter's House can come in and preach the junk that they did to teenagers, and probably some kids that had just turned 13, and since the night it happened, no one in the community seems to be outraged by it. Not one. Guess it just goes to show you the type of a community we live in.

Now the Potter's House knows they can get away with stuff like this. Let's all put our hands together for the lovely Potter's House who helped to embarrass this community by getting us on the news for something not-so-good once again.

They also helped remind us why as we pass the Potter's House we shake our heads and say under our breath, "Oh Potter's House, I don't like you, but I won't speak up in the community and unleash the discontent I have for you to put a stop to your shenanigans." This definitely was the scariest Halloween I can remember.
