The girls' volleyball team is continuing to improve and has stepped it up in order to reach their goals. The teammates have come together and shown that they have what it takes to possibly win the league championship.
"The season is going pretty well. There is room to improve on our consistency, but we have a good jumping program and our passing and serve/receive has gotten better," said senior co-captain Gabo Ailstock.
Head coach Ben Patterson agrees.
"All 12 of the girls are playing hard. We have held our own in all the games," said Patterson.
Recently, the girls had a tough loss against Canby, with a score of 25-23 in the fourth game.
"We are definitely expecting to beat Canby next time. They are ranked number six in the state, so it's always going to be tough," said senior co-captain Taryn Hunter.
"This season is really good. The team just keeps going up, and we will for sure win against Canby next time," said sophomore Maeghan Angel.
"The captains are doing great. They are leaders by example, which is more important than leading by words," said Patterson.
"The captains were chosen perfectly. Taryn is an amazing team player all around. She is consistent with everything," said Angel, "I am so excited to be on varsity. Our momentum is always up and it has been so fun and exciting."
"At the beginning I was skeptical about being so young, but we really started blooming after the jamboree. We have improved, and our three defenders have turned out to be the best passers on the team," said Hunter.
"We're a pretty young team with not a lot of varsity experience, but we've adapted well to it. The younger girls are stepping up to the plate really well. Maeghan [Angel] is doing a great job in the back row," said Ailstock.
All teammates agree that they need to focus on the basics and fundamentals. Angel believes that they are "breaking it into a goal."
"My goal is to get 400 digs by the end of the season, but I really want the team to be bonding outside of volleyball," said Angel.
Hunter, Ailstock and Patterson all said that the team goal was to make it past the first round of playoffs and to be one of the top two teams in the league.
"It's going to be a lot of work, but we can do it if we put our minds to it," said Ailstock, "I want us all to work more on our consistency and getting our kill percentages up."
"I want the girls to play to win. Every game gets better and we're playing tough teams."
All agree team has good chemistry. Hunter believes that they have all come together and have been able to put their differences aside.
"I plan on improvement. Hopefully by the end of the season we will be a formidable team," said Patterson.
"It's going to be a great season," said Angel, "I think that we are all excited to be here."
