Action Corner takes hard hit

The smoothies that the student body enjoys during lunch are one of several items that the Action Corner is selling in an attempt to raise their profits. The new state-wide health policy that has increased its restrictions this year is hurting Action Corner's income. This is directly resulting in the loss of money returned to MHS as a gift and loss of donations to the Life Skills program.

Since 2009, the dance has gained many fans along the west coast and is gaining popularity on the east coast. "There's a (m)app for that"

What do Trailblazer fans and Verizon Wireless have in common? They both love to hate their competition. A sports team can, however, win fair and square. Can this be said true about Verizon's attempt at victory over their competitor, AT&T? Looking at their advertising tactics, one might question if the game is in fair play.

In early October, Verizon Wireless debuted an advertisement targeting the poor 3G coverage of their competing incorporation, AT&T.

"Peace Rocks" show up at MHS

This past Veteran's Day marked the beginning of a long awaited five-day weekend, serving as the perfect opportunity to honor beloved activities like hanging out with friends, mindlessly surfing the web, and of course, catching up on sleep. For some at MHS, however, Veteran's Day was an occasion to honor those who have served our country-and reflect on the meaning behind their bravery.

Skateboarding: Boards without Boundaries

"Skateboarding: A pointless, destructive activity practiced by low-life social outcasts with failing grades and drug addictions for the sake of entertainment," as defined by the majority of Americans.

To many people a skateboard is just a toy for small kids to mess around on in the neighborhood cul-de-sac, and often it is just a phase that some kids go through, but never actually stick with.

School welcomes new teachers to growing MHS campus

Every year, along with the hundreds of new students who walk through the MHS doors are numerous new faculty members. There are 12 joining our team of Grizzlies this year. Nichelle Palmer is the new counselor. She grew up in Minnesota and received her undergraduate degree at University of Minnesota and her master's at Portland State University. "I just finished up my master's program in June. I've worked with kids in many different capacities before, but this is my first official year as a counselor," said Palmer.

Student travels abroad through Amigos program

MHS senior Jules Johnson was one of 31 high school students from Oregon to join more than 500 other students from all over the United States and North America to volunteer with the Amigos de las Americas program this past summer.

Described as a "mini-Peace Corps," Amigos is an international non-profit organization in which young adults learn leadership and decision making skills and how to make a positive difference in less fortunate communities.

Getting out, Moving on

Most MHS students will never be faced with the choice to become a gang member. We don't have a "gang problem" here in McMinnville, right?

Many MHS students complain about the anti-gang school rules that prohibit wearing bandanas or making certain hand gestures.

What is the big deal, anyway?

MHS welcomes former president

Perhaps the most exciting moment since Hulk Hogan and his daughter Brooke graced the stage in The Furnace, the arrival of former president Bill Clinton at MHS was both unexpected and puzzling.

Oregon swings Democratic primary

With Oregon's primary having passed only three days ago, it should have been obvious to anyone watching the news that Oregon's primary held quite a bit more importance than usual this time around.

What makes this primary different is that usually, at this point in the race, a clear nominee has been determined for both the Democrats and the Republicans.

MHS boys help children

April 12 this year marked an important event on the MHS calendar: Mr. Mac High. The fundraiser made $20,000 that night alone; an amazing achievement. Senior and assistant director Erin Van Patten said, "It was really stressful at times, [but also]really rewarding to get to the show and see all the hard work the boys did pay off."
