Spring sports will jump into action as two new coaches step in to fill the shoes of those previous. Track and boy's tennis will both receive new head coaches this year. Faculty member and previously-assistant coach Vic Downs will become the head of track, and Linfield graduate Wes Gabrielson plans to lead the tennis team.
For the first time the seniors of the MHS boys' basketball team can say that they beat their rivals, the Newberg Tigers, and they can say they did so handily. The Grizzlies find themselves in a three-way tie for first in the Pacific conference with Newberg and Tualatin after beating the Tigers 84-62. The win at the Furnace Tuesday night in front of an enormous crowd puts the Grizzlies in a two game winning streak as well.
Starting next year the athletic teams of MHS will not be traveling to Canby and instead they will compete with three Hillsboro teams for the Pacific Conference. Glencoe, Century and Hillsboro being added and Canby being moved to the Three Rivers conference are some of many changes taking place around the state.
The new changes have come about mostly because of the six classifications of schools and the loss or gain in enrollment. Every four years the leagues will be up for change again. Enrollment will be examined, and teams will be placed where they fit best.
The 2010 Alaskan Iditarod is nearing, and the musher list is filling quickly. One of the most respected races in the world, where each musher travels approximately 1,150 miles from Anchorage to Nome in harsh conditions from one checkpoint to another. On Mar. 6, about 71 mushers, male and female, will battle the weather and each other.
As the end of the season approaches, the girl's basketball team is putting in every last effort to improve their skills and send the five seniors out with a positive and memorable season. Since last year some NBA teams have fallen from grace, others have risen to fame, and some even stay at the same rank as they had in the 2008-2009 season. While Los Angeles' and Cleveland's topping of their own conferences is hardly a surprise, the rising of other NBA teams has proven something of an eye opener.
This season, the MHS boys basketball team is seeking redemption after last season’s failed attempt to make playoffs. Coming off of a jamboree at Westview High School where the Grizzlies beat the Wildcats in a 12 minute period, they went into their home game on Dec. 8 against the McNary Scots with confidence, winning in a thrilling battle 69-64. This win will carry over through the rest of the season.

In one of the greatest seasons in the NBA history, where many teams have numerous high-caliber players on various teams, the Blazers are cruising towards the top of the Western Conference. With a team made-up of mostly young guys that are finally growing up, they have a serious chance of challenging the Los Angeles Lakers for their Western Conference Championship ring.
The MHS wrestling team is coming off a very competitive and successful season, sending eight guys off to the state tournament and having a number of the wrestlers do well in the district tournament. For first time head coach, Shawn Keinonen, the season was very successful and productive for the eight seniors they had and also for the rest of the team and the wrestling program here in McMinnville.
The MLS Cup was played on a cold Sunday afternoon between Real Salt Lake and the L.A. Galaxy in which the Galaxy were highly favored to win their first MLS Cup since 2005. The pieces were all set for each team. Real Salt Lake was looking to win their first MLS Cup in franchise history behind veteran captain Kyle Beckerman and former L.A. Galaxy forward Robbie Findley. L.A. had a brand new defense with young and old talent. They also had MVP, Goal of the Year Winner, MLS Starting 11 player, and MLS Playoff goal leader Landon Donovan.
The McMinnville Grizzlies girls soccer team has one thing on their mind as they enter this year's season; redemption for last years season. After playing and competing in one of the toughest leagues in 6A, the Grizzly girls were unable to establish themselves as a threat against tough opponents who went deep into playoffs last season.
